Newest Doll, December, 2008
This doll at one time was one of those country dolls with a
prairie type dress and a bonnet, etc.  She was dirty and
needed new life.  She's living this incarnation as a puzzled
little dollie.  Only now she has eyes, which is better than not
having them.  She was great fun to rejuvenate!

Below is a doll I made of various stuff I had lying around.
Her body is from a garage sale doll, and I painted that with puzzle piece shapes.  Her face is from another project
I did a long time ago that didn't work out.  The
head in her lap is one I made about 10 years ago and never did
anything with.  The beads are from other projects.
This was supposed to be a dollmaker.  But as you can see,
it is decidedly NOT a dollmaker.
My friends have had some fun trying to title this for me.

Four Heads Project
The four heads pictured below were done back in the early 1990s.
They are sculpted of Polymer clay with plastic eyes, except for the first
which was done with a painted wooden bead, as best as I remember anyway.
They were done over about two weeks as I recall.
Each one was sculpted fast, without much thought to composition or
technique.  They are done in a primitive, sort of earthy manner.
I don't usually explain my work, but I think maybe this is obvious anyway.
They begin with pain and rage and end in whimsy.

LORD OF THE OLIVES
5" Seated, Fabric, acrylics, mixed media.  Wood Olives.
$60
This doll was entirely intuitively made, thus no measuring, no pattern.  I simply worked until he was finished.
I had no idea he was going to be a man until I was way into his construction!
He was the first doll I started after I broke through my recent creative block.
Like nearly all my dolls, he was entirely hand stitched.
His olives are vintage prop olives I bought at Buffums, the high end Department store
that closed way back when.
They were one time a part of displays for the Fine China department.
(Doll is not anatomically correct.)

Sweet Old Lady
NFS
This old lady was made of fabric, acrylic eyes, painted with acrylics.
She's one of my favorites.  Somehow she resonates with me.

These are my bugs.  The little one is a slug.
There is a story that goes with that slug that I'll 'splain below
The big one is a flying insect.  I'm still looking for a name.
The big blue bug is now in a private collection.

This flying insect (yet to be named) is made of cloth, wood, acrylics and other things.  Mixed media.
She isn't quite done, because I have to do legs of some sort.

The little guy above is a slug I made.
This slug is dear to me, because it reminds me of some pet
slugs we acquired one year.  At first I thought how ewww, gooey slugs
for pets.  They only came indoors in the night.  One day my husband
discovered where they were getting in, and blocked their path, and no
more slugs!  I've never forgotten them.
I always thought it was kind of cool to have slugs for pets.  I couldn't tell them
apart, so never named them.  But I'm glad they came to visit for the
short time that they did.
If you have never had a slug invasion in your house, it's quite something!
I could try to tell you how to encourage them to come in, if you would like to know.
They are very quiet, polite guests.

 "Mildred, The Puzzle Piece Hoarder"
Cloth doll, acrylic paint, puzzle pieces, other stuff.
4 1/2" seated, high end acrylic eyes.
Her pattern was designed by me, and destroyed
after she was finished.  I may make similar, but she is
One of a kind.
Signed Original
$75
Mildred s is someone you may been affected by in your lifetime.
This little gnome is the one who steals your jigsaw puzzle pieces and
hides them in various places, never the same place twice, usually so well
that you either never find them, or you find them after they've been through
the washing machine.  She has one puzzle piece in her hand, no doubt just
stolen from some unsuspecting soul, and she has several pieces in her little bag.

Good lesson this lady doll.  She was one I was proud of.  (Pride goeth before a fall?)  I had always suspected that I did not cure her long enough
and sure 'nuff, recently I picked her up to look at her, and there was a big crack right across the middle of her face.  I wrote to Jack Johnston and
asked him what could cause that.  He said that undercuring will indeed cause it to crack.  This was about a year and a half later that her face
cracked.  So, if you make polymer clay dolls, be certain that you cure your work well enough.
