Why We Love Madison, Kansas

There are so many good things about this town that
it is impossible to show them all on my little site.

One of the wonderful things about this town is that people still wave, even if
they don't know you, they wave.  It's a welcoming, warm hearted thing to do, which
I think reflects the general mood of this town.

I will be rotating things over time.  One time it might be
businesses, another time personal things, another churches
and so on.  Keep checking back.

If you have any special requests of something you'd like to see here, please contact me.
My contact info is on the contact page.

This is the road approaching Madison on hwy 58, just around the curve is a wonderful, small town.

Starlings in our winter bare bushes.  This is only a fraction of how many are out there.
Most of the flock is over in the hay barn.
That building you can see through the trees, the red one, is the old train depot that is now
Madison's Museum.  The train is long gone.  I only dream of the phantom train.
You cannot really see the depot from my back porch in the summer due to all the foliage.
It's not quite as close as it appears in this picture.

The shorter brick building on the right is City Hall.
Next to that, the sheriff's office.

The creamy colored building is the diner.  Last time we were in the diner we were told that they don't serve pie!  ALL diners should serve pie and coffee, the basic staples of American life.  Maybe they do by now.  I should check again.  However, I do suggest you try it.  I love their biscuits and gravy when I'm in the mood for it.

Note the brick street.  I love that.
This is the Sauder community center and the library.  These are sources of pride for our community.  They are well used.  We are so lucky to have such a nice place in our town.

CHUBBY FOODS
This is our local grocery store.  We have new owners, a family, and they seem like really great people.   They are bringing in some new things, like feta cheese.  I mean this, try the feta cheese. It is terrific in pasta salad and other dishes.
I wanted to get a better picture of the sign.  I just love that name "Chubby Foods".  It cracks me up.  A few times a week Larry says, "I'm going down to Chubby's. You want anything?"
Memorable name and fun.

THE MADISON NEWS
This is our weekly town newspaper.  It is owned by a lovely family.  They keep us all connected, even those of us who don't get out enough.   If you come to live here, you definitely need to subscribe to the paper.  BUT, even if you don't live here, you can subscribe and keep up on the town doings.
On the left is the Mini Mall, a store with lots of neat stuff.  This store is owned by a couple who are very active in the community, very likable people.  If you need something, check in the Mini Mall.

On the right is the Senior Center.  A nice gathering place.  They are a very active group, well worth getting to know.  I don't go here, but wish I did.  Someday.

The local antique store.  This is a big building, be sure to walk through to the back rooms too.

The information I gave earlier, if you saw it was wrong.  First of all, it wasn't Ted Brakeman, but Ted Brinkman.  And two people have corrected the facts for me, which I greatly appreciate.  Here is the correction:

The antique store next to Wilson's funeral home used to be Newton Ream's Ford dealership. It closed in the 60's and Elsie Jamison bought it for her antique store. Ted Brinkman's chevrolet dealership was where abz's offices are now.

MADISON BULLDOGS!
The local high school.  Will do more on this later.  Madison has good schools and great kids.

Out near the lake.  Peaceful, serene.

More to come.  Keep checking in.  I'll be trying to add and change things regularly.
